Everton could be heading for another change of ownership after The Friedkin Group began exploring options for new investment, including the potential sale of its controlling stake in the club.

The American ownership group, led by billionaire Dan Friedkin, completed its takeover of Everton in December 2024, ending Farhad Moshiri’s time at the club. However, less than two years later, the group is considering the next stage of its involvement at Goodison Park’s successor, Hill Dickinson Stadium.

In a statement, The Friedkin Group said the time was right to consider Everton’s next chapter, adding that it would only consider interest from parties it believed could take the club forward.

Why are Everton’s owners considering a sale?

When The Friedkin Group took control of Everton, the club was facing significant financial challenges and uncertainty. Its priorities included providing stability, investing in the club and completing the move to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The ownership group says that foundation is now in place, allowing it to explore what comes next.

Everton’s owners have also stressed that they remain committed to supporting the team and making a positive difference in the communities around the club while the process continues.

Everton could be valued at up to £1 billion

Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers suggested that the cost of returning Everton to the top level of English football could be a major factor behind the potential sale.

Myers also pointed to The Friedkin Group’s wider commitments, including its ownership of Italian club Roma and plans for a new stadium there.

According to Myers, the group could be seeking between £800 million and £1 billion for Everton. However, this figure has not been confirmed as an official asking price by the owners.

What happens next at Everton?

The Friedkin Group has made clear that any potential deal would depend on finding the right people to lead the club into its next phase.

For Everton supporters, the priority will be ensuring that any change in ownership brings long term stability, continued investment and progress on the pitch.

The club has experienced significant uncertainty in recent years, and a potential sale would raise fresh questions about its future plans, transfer spending and ambitions in the Premier League.

For now, Everton’s sale is being considered, but no completed takeover has been announced. The Friedkin Group says it will continue supporting the club while it assesses its options.
